ANA is an on-site household level sanitation solution that fully removes pathogens at the source.

The system requires a small footprint and can fit within urban and peri-urban infrastructures.

This technology operates fully independent of electrical and water grids.

All energy required for treatment processes is captured from the fecal waste itself, and all electrical components are powered by a small solar panel.

ANA enables the user to have access to a safely managed sanitation system and reduces the risk of exposure to fecal sludge for both the household and the wider community; thus, increasing dignity of users and decreasing prevalence of diarrheal disease across this full chain of stakeholders.

How it works

Anaerobic Digestion

Anaerobic Digestion.png

Anaerobic reactor breaks down solids & converts organics to biogas.

Pasteurization

Reuse

Pasteurization_v2.png

The biogas is burnt to produce heat, which is used to inactivate pathogens in the liquid effluent.

The safe liquid effluent can be used as fertilizer or discharged to the environment.

Progress

ANA history.png

The technology behind ANA has been well-researched at Duke University in the Professor Marc Deshessus biological processes laboratory. Full-scale demonstrations took place in Kenya, India, and the Philippines, serving 15-30 users each.

Triangle Environmental is leveraging its collective experience from transitioning 20 prototypes from US labs to the field in 8 countries to launch this technology to a commercial project. Starting from our core strengths of technical development, product servicing, and sanitation market exploration, we are bringing in product design and development partners to create a user-friendly and market-ready package for readily-deployed improved sanitation.
